Overview

There's a method for authoring HD content to HD-DVD using your existing DVD burner and standard recordable DVDs. You need a copy of Ulead DVD Movie Factory 5 or 6, VideoReDo, and a couple of freeware apps. The resulting DVDs will play back in HD on any HD-DVD player. The only downside is that you're limited to about 30-60 minutes per DVD so multiple discs are required. You can read aboutthe process here:

The Toshiba HD-DVD players have dropped considerably in price ($200-300) and the X-Box 360 HD-DVD drive is only $179 (works great on my HTPC).

Applies To

This process really is intended to apply to a HR10-250 DirecTiVo that has been hacked to allow show extraction using mfs_ftp or other solutions. It is unknown as to whether or not this will be possible with a TiVo Series 3 or TiVo HD.
